Proofing Module
The Elan Proofing Module accepts PDF, raster PDF or Postscript file(s) as input. The input file may be normalized prior to proofing and alignment. Pages can be visually checked for front-to-back registration and aligned as necessary. The aligned document may be passed through to the Elan Imposition module or released for printing and/or archiving
Input formats:
| The Proofer Module is able to accept input files originating from the Imaging Module or any PDF, Postscript or Encapsulated PostScript file. The input from the Imaging Module will be in raster PDF file, and the preview images will be directly transferred. |
![]() |
PDF: Full vector or raster-based PDF files. |
![]() ![]() |
EPS and PS files: These files will be converted to PDF format. |
Normalization:
![]() |
The input files will be normalized prior to job creation based on user preference settings. The normalization process will create compliant PDF files suitable for rasterisation and further processing. It will eliminate most problems associated with PDF files that are encountered in a multi-customer printing environment. |
![]() |
The normalization process integrates Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Distiller in a batch process transparent to the operator. Optionally, it can be invoked as a tool for fixing font, embedding or structure related problems with Adobe PDF technology. |
Page Alignment:
|
Once a Proofer job is created, all the pages will be represented as bitonal raster images which will then be analyzed for content. Statistical analysis will be used to determine tendencies in the page layout and adjust for irregular pages (for example: chapter pages, front matter). Page templates can be saved and loaded. After all pages are aligned and proofed, a PDF file will be created, which is equivalent to the input file, except that page canvas and/or coordinates are changed. |
|
|
Resize Canvas: New, uniform canvas can be applied to a PDF file or a set of files. |
|
|
Align Content: Margins can be established for precise page alignment. The alignment is template based and will automatically adjust for irregular pages in a recto-verso environment. |
|
|
Proofing: all pages can be displayed in front-to-back mode and aligned manually or apply alignment to selected or all pages. |
|
Page Editing |
Raster files in a job created by the Imaging Module input can be edited/updated by the raster editing tools used in the Imaging Module. The editing and updating is transparent to the user. |
Output/Next Step:
|
The output of the Proofer Module is a PDF file that represents the perfectly aligned, single-page layout book block. This file can be submitted to the next workflow step, the Imposition Module, or can be directly printed or archived. |
