Impositioning in the Workflow

After you have merged and aligned the document, it is ready for impositioning. While impositioning you will be working within an Acrobat plug-in called PDF Snake that was installed during the Proofer installation process.
The following steps show a typical impositioning process; however, you can change the options to accommodate your specific situation.
| 1. | From the Proofer Job menu, select Open for impositioning. |

Job Menu - Open for Impositioning
| 2. | The output PDF file (already merged and aligned) is opened in Acrobat. From the Impositioning menu (within Acrobat), select Impose... |

| 3. | The One-Step Impose dialog box opens. Here we will indicate the paper size. In our example we will specify a custom size of 17x11 inches. |
| a. | Starting with the Paper tab, select Custom from the Paper Size dropdown menu. |
| b. | Ensure that the Units dropdown box has inches selected. |
c. Set the Width to 17" and the Height to 11".

| 4. | Next, select the Scale tab. For our example we will not require scaling. Select the No Scaling radio button. |

| 5. | The next step is to select the Layout tab. Set up our sample book for: |
| • | two columns |
| • | one row |
| • | no margins |
| • | no gutters and |
| • | 2 up (repeat each page 2x) |

| 8. | Now we will save our settings by typing in a descriptive name within the Name dropdown box and clicking Ok. |

| 9. | Adobe Acrobat now displays your document with your specified imposition settings. From the View menu in Adobe Acrobat, select Zoom To... Ctrl+M. This opens the Zoom To dialog box. |

| 10. | From the Zoom To dialog box, select 25% from the Magnification dropdown menu. Then select Ok. |

| 11. | Important: After impositioning, Acrobat will create a file called "Untitled". You must save this file before closing Acrobat. From the Impositioning menu in Acrobat, select Save to Elan Proofer. This saves the file to the 04_Imposed folder inside your current job folder and closes it in Acrobat. |

Save to Elan Proofer
| 13. | Close Adobe Acrobat and return to Proofer. Proofer will detect the presence of the PDF file in the 04_Imposed directory and present a dialog box where you can choose whether or not to rasterize the imposed PDF file. This is only needed to set up a new layout and to raise confidence in the process by providing the same raster proofing tools used in the previous steps. |

The saved imposed PDF file is ready to be printed and archived.
