The ELAN Professional Proofer (EPP 2.0) is a PC-based tool using the Microsoft Windows Operating System (MS 2000/XP) to provide a fully integrated solution for the preparation of a hardcopy or digital book for on-demand printing.
While fully integrated, EPP 2.0 is logically organized as four modules:
Imaging Module
Proofing Module
Imposition Module
Printing and Archiving Module
PC running MS Windows 2000 or XP with 3.0 MHz, 1GB memory over 30GB hard disk storage and 19” screen is recommended.

Imaging
Proofing
The Elan Imaging Module scans hardcopy documents and/or imports raster images or raster PDF files. Advanced image processing, raster editing and document assembly can be applied to the digital images. The assembled document is then passed through to the Elan Proofing Module for alignment and proofing and/or directly to the Imposition Module.
The Elan Proofing Module accepts PDF, raster PDF or Postscript file(s) as input. The input file may be normalized prior to proofing and alignment. Pages can be visually checked for front-to-back registration and aligned as necessary. The aligned document may be passed through to the Elan Imposition module or released for printing and/or archiving

& Archiving
The Elan Imposition Module creates 2,3 and 4-up PDF files supporting portrait and landscape orientation. The imposed file may be sent to the Proofing Module for front and back registration check or released to the Printing and archiving Module.

The make-ready output or imposed file received from the Proofing or Imposition Modules can be submitted to a cut sheet or continuous feed printer using LPR or Xerox XDS print submission. Different queues may be defined to submit directly to a specific queue.
