| |
| Guidelines are two horizontal and two vertical lines in the image viewer, which provide a visual aid for you when setting up an edge cleanup or positioning subimages manually. The guidelines are blue dashed lines painted on the top of the image. You can set up the dimensions for the four guidelines. They usually help a lot in the manual cleanup.
| |
| For example, if you are manually moving the page numbers to a different location, you can set up the guidelines and position the page number on each page so that the page number touches the guidelines. The guidelines are just a visual indication tool in this case.
| |
| You can also use the guidelines for setting up the maximum subimage size, the edge cleanup, or even the positioning and quality control margins. Just set up the margins visually, then transfer the exact dimensions to the main window of PPP.
| |
| There are two ways to change the guideline settings. You can either double-click on a guideline or click the Set Up Guidelines icon to display the Guideline Properties dialog box (Figure 7-2).
| |
Figure 7-2. The Guideline Properties Dialog
| The window contains the settings for each guideline. Check the check box on the left to make a guideline visible. Uncheck to hide the guideline. You can set up the dimension for the guideline by typing in a value and choosing a unit. For example, you can type a value of 0.5 and select "in" for a guideline at a distance of 0.5 inch from the edge of the image. You can also use the track bar to set up the guideline visually. Move the track bar with the mouse until the guideline is at the correct position. There is one more check box on the right side. Check if you want to see the dimensions displayed by the guideline. Uncheck to hide the dimensions.
| |
| You have to set up all four guidelines independently. However, there is a check box labeled "All visible / hidden". Check to display all four guidelines. Uncheck to hide all four guidelines. Use the Show all dimension check box to control the visibility of the dimensions for all guidelines. Check to make all dimensions visible. Uncheck to hide all dimensions.
| |
| Click the OK button to accept the current settings. Use Cancel if you changed your mind and wish to keep the old guidelines.
| |
| The built-in viewer's guidelines are synchronized with the current verso-recto settings of PPP. If you are in Simple mode, you can only use one set of guidelines for all your images. However, in Odd-Even mode, you may have different guidelines for the verso and recto images. In this latter case, you set up the guidelines for verso and recto images independently.
| |
| It is very common for the verso and recto settings to be mirrored. This means the top and bottom settings should be same for all images, and the left verso guideline should be the same as the right recto guideline, and the right verso guideline should be the same as the left recto guideline. In this case, you do not need to set up the guidelines first for verso images, then for recto images. You only need to set up one of them, then use the Mirror button on the Guideline Properties dialog. For example, if you set up the guidelines for verso images, you can apply the mirrored version of the current settings for recto images.
| |
| Should you have to use the same guideline options for verso and recto images, just use the Duplicate button in the Guideline Properties dialog box. This button applies the current settings to the facing page. In other words, you only need to set up the verso guidelines and apply the same settings for recto images.
| |
| PPP is able to display the margins for processed images in the built-in viewer. Figure 7-3 shows an example. The dashed yellow area represents the region outside the margins.
| |
Figure 7-3. Displaying the Margins (see yellow area)
| Note that the viewer only displays the margins for output images processed by PPP, and only if the images are in the current job. Images not listed in either the Exception List or Good Files List can not have a margin. The margins displayed by the viewer do not reflect the current margin settings on the Margin Setup page in PPP. Instead, the viewer always displays the margins used for positioning the subimage. It is possible that you process an image with a set of margins, then you change the current margins. In this case, PPP will display the old margins used for the subimage positioning. Therefore some of the images might have different margins then the others.
| |
| Click the Turn Margins On/Off icon ( ) on the toolbar to show margins. Click again to hide them.
