Turning Off Page Content Detection
| Turning Off Page Content Detection

|
| There are two image processor modes:
|
| · | Positioning mode. In this mode, page detection is performed, the subimage is extracted and placed on the clear white output canvas. To set positioning mode, check the Page content detection check box (Figure 6-17) in the center column of the Page Setup page.
|
Figure 6-17. Choosing Between Simple and Positioning Mode
| · | Simple mode. In simple mode, PPP does not perform page detection; there is no subimage at all. The image processor just performs the selected processing operations like a slave. It clears the speckles, turns the images or deskews them. While PPP is quite intelligent in positioning mode, it is rather dumb in simple mode. The simple mode is good if you want to do very simple processing operations on lots of image files. To set simple mode, uncheck the Page content detection check box.
|
| In simple mode, there are no margins at all. Instead, at the left side of the Page Setup page, you can set the offset parameters. In simple mode, PPP can shift the image by the amount specified in the Offset group box shown in Figure 6-18.
| |
Figure 6-18. Specifying an Offset.
| Like the margins, the offset parameters can also be simple or odd-even. If the Simple option is selected, the same offset will be applied to each image. If the Odd-even option is selected, different offset parameters can be set for the verso (left) and recto (right) images. You can switch between the verso and recto offset parameters by clicking on the tabs at the bottom of the Offset group.
| |
| Note that the Simple mode is very similar to the Positioning mode with the horizontal and vertical alignment set to Keep mode. The generated output image is going to be the same in both cases. There is, however, a big difference between the two modes. In Simple mode, PPP is extremely fast, because it does not perform a page detection. On the other hand, if positioning is turned on, then PPP will always detect the subimage and checks whether it is inside of the margins. This makes the image processing slightly slower than in Simple mode, but in return PPP does the quality control for you. You can be sure that your subimage is always valid, otherwise the image will be sent to the Exception List.
