Setting the Default Unit

Figure 6-11. Selecting Default Unit.
| The default unit is used throughout PPP. You can select one from the following units:
|
| The default unit can be changed any time; in this case all the parameters will be converted into the new unit. Sometimes you can't choose each unit. The conversion between inch and millimeter is unique, but the conversion between pixel and the other units is not ambiguous, it depends on the resolution.
| |
| The resolution will be determined automatically. PPP detects the size and the resolution of the first image in the Selected Files List, and displays this data in the light green boxes by the unit selection radio buttons. These light green boxes are read-only, they cannot be edited by the user.
| |
| It is recommended that you first add one or more images in the Selected Files List, then set up the desired unit, and after that set the other parameters.
| |
| When you specify a value anywhere in the program, it will be interpreted in the default unit. For example, when you set the left margin to .5 and the default unit is inch, the left margin will be set to 0.5". You can specify a value in either unit, it will automatically be converted into the default unit. For example, if the default unit is inch, and you write 10 mm in an edit box, it will be converted into 0.394". So you never need to manually convert between units.
| |
| Values specified in inches are precise to three decimal places, dimensions in millimeters are precise to two decimal places, and pixel values are always integer numbers.
