Backing Up PPP

Making a backup copy of your files is very important. A system breakdown or hard disk failure might damage your data. Therefore, you should generally back up your PPP JOB and LOG files on a floppy or ZIP diskette, or on a tape device.

However, it is not necessary to make a backup copy of PPP on your hard disk. PPP can always be reinstalled from the CD-ROM. The only thing you will want to save is the custom settings. If you are installing PPP on a machine where it has never been installed or has been uninstalled, PPP will not remember your previous custom settings.

Fortunately, there is a way to back up the current program settings for PPP. All the user options and parameters can be saved on a backup disk. PPP stores the custom settings in the following files:

PPP.INI
USER200.INI
USER300.INI
USER400.INI
USER500.INI
USER600.INI
USER700.INI
USER800.INI

These files are located in the directory where you installed PPP. You might not have all of these files. The default location for PPP is C:\Program Files\Elan\PPP. We suggest that you locate these files and save them on a backup disk or tape after you change the custom settings or some of the page detection parameters.

Notes:

·Please exit PPP before you back up the INI files.
