Resizing Subimages

Simple Page Registration

PPP offers a very special extension for those who wish to resize their images so that they fit within a predefined set of margins. This image resizing extension provides an additional processing phase, which works independently from the main image processor engine.

The main engine takes the input image, performs image positioning and cleanup, then sends the image to the Good Files List or to the Exception List. In contrast, the image resizer engine processes the images in the Good Files List. You can only perform an image resize after you have successfully processed all of your images with the main image processor.

A regular processing scenario contains the following steps:

·Create a new job.
·Select images for processing.
·Set up the image processing options on the Page Setup, Margin Setup and Cleanup tabs of PPP (the Resize tab is not used).
·Process the images with the regular image processor engine.
·Perform a quality control by revising the files in the Exception List and the Good Files List.
·Make additional processing steps until all your output images are located in the Good Files List.

This is what the standard PPP has to offer. At this time most users can consider their job finished.

Some users, however, also wish to resize their images so that they fit in a predefined area on the output canvas. You might even want to resize the whole output canvas. Therefore we provided an extension to the standard PPP. Once you have finished with the standard processing phases, you can do the following:

·Set up a new output canvas and an area in which the resized subimages must fit.
·Take all the output images from the Good Files List, grab the subimage from them, then resize and position the subimage on the new canvas. Note that PPP keeps the original aspect ratio of the subimages.

These extra steps can be done from the Resize tab of the main PPP window. This final phase is usually very fast, no additional page detection is necessary, and the Good Files List and the Exception List will remain untouched during the resizing. The output of the resizing will go to a separate directory, and a special list will be provided for the image files that could not be processed for some reason. Bad images will not go to the Exception List at this time, and good images will not go to the Good Files List either. Note that the generated images do not need further quality control, because the invalid subimages were already detected during the regular processing phases. You have a chance to take a look at your resized images, edit them, or just view a thumbnail of all of them side by side on the screen.

It is also possible to merge all the images into a single TIFF or PDF files after resizing.

Further details about the resizing procedure and parameters will be discussed later in this manual.
