Editing Images with PixEdit
Previous Top Next

Although PPP has a built-in editor, its capabilities are somewhat restricted. The inetrnal editor is optimized for tasks usually needed in the document magagement field. Sometimes you might want perform more sophysticated editing function found in artistic editing applications like Adobe Photoshop.

To edit an image with PixEdit®, right-click on the image either in the File Browsing List, the Selected Files List, the Thumbnail View, the Exception List, or in the Good File List, and choose Edit With PixEdit from the popup menu. PPP will load PixEdit® if it is not loaded yet, and will open the image for editing.

Note:

  • PixEdit® is a separate software from Precise Page Positioning. It must be purchased before it can work with PPP Image Editing.

PixEdit® excels in the following areas:

  • Easy to use image editor.
  • Supports the high speed TWAIN scanning interface. You can use it as your primary scanning program for creating bitonal images in a commercial environment.
  • Multi-page file format support. PixEdit handles the creation and separation of multi page TIFF files. See the File > Combine and File > Save and Separate menu options.
  • Able to function as a printing program. Also capable to be set up as a Print Server.
  • It is a file format converter for raster images. Supports numerous raster file formats.

We do not cover the features and the usage of PixEdit® in this manual. Please read the manual or help file that comes with PixEdit® to learn the program. PPP supports both PixEdit® versions 4 and 5.

We have added a special toolbar to PixEdit® to minimize the number of mouse clicks and make some basic operations easier to perform. A screen shot of the toolbar can be seen in Figure 7-6.

The toolbar has the following icons:

  • Save16 Save. Click to save the current image.
  • ppp16 Save, Close & Go To PPP. Click to save and close the current image in PixEdit®, then go back to the PPP window.
  • Bookopen Save, Close & Re-process. Click to save and close the current image in PixEdit®, then go back to PPP and re-process the image. Re-processing only works if the image is already in the Exception List or in the Good Files List.
  • ZoomAll16 Zoom to fit. Zoom the current image in PixEdit® to fit the editor window.

In a typical workflow, you will go to the Exception List and use either the Mini Overview or the Investigation View for checking the image quality. If the output image generated by PPP is bad, you will click the Edit button to call PixEdit®. This way you can manually edit the input image. For example, you can remove some large speckles or the punch holes from the edge. After editing the input image, click the Save, Close & Re-process icon (Bookopen) on the toolbar. This time PixEdit® will save and close the input image and pass it back to PPP for re-processing. Check the output image again whether it meets the requirements or not. If it is still not good, you can repeat the whole procedure once again.
