Zone recognition (also called forms recognition) enables automatic extraction of field values form a scanned image using OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology. ELAN Capture provides an easy way to set up a zone recognition template and then perform the actual recognition process. After the recognition is performed, QC tools are available to quickly correct entities that are not recognized correctly.
The Zone Recognition setup dialog is available from the menu "Plugins -> Zone Recognition -> Template Setup

Our goal is to find a text string that is on the same place on an image and associate it with a metadata field. The template setup provides a way to add and delete templates that are associated with fields.

The "Add" or "Edit" buttons open up the detail screen.

With the combination of the hierarchy levels (associated by the metadata fields) and the ability to designate which page the data resides within that hierarchy section, it possible to extract data strings from several pages from a multi-page form.
The application is capable of parsing data from a fixed location of by designating a search string.
