Renaming Tool
| Previous | Main | Next |
ELAN Capture works with a Job Tree, that virtualizes the images that are on the file system. This works well in most of the cases, but sometimes it is needed that the file system naming be changed. "Normalizing" a set of files so that it is easy handle on the file system makes a lot of sense.
Main uses for the renaming tool:
- Tracking page numbers with file numbers: provides an easy to use QC tool for validating the existence of scanned images. Just rename your files in the job so that every chapter will have it's own pre-fix and chapter numbering. Example: scan or rename the images of a book be assigning 00_001, 00_002 etc.. file names to the front matter and 01_001, 01_002, 01_003 etc... to the main content. It is easy to locate missing pages or duplicates now.
- Merging images scanned on different devices. Use section numbering for this purpose. Can also be used with barcode recognition.
The renaming task is performed is by activating the "Renamer" toolbar.

Renamer Toolbar
The basic working principle of the renaming workflow is:
- Create a renaming template
- Create Master Items
- Rename files
The creation of Master Items is also possible using barcode recognition.
Transfer Barcode Value as Master Item ![]()
Us this option if you are controlling your renaming using barcode separators and barcode recognition. Mostly used for scanning on different devices (sheet-fed scanner and engineering scanner as an example) for setting up a naming scheme that can be merged to restore the natural order of the document.
Create Renaming Template ![]()
By pressing this icon, a sequence of numbers will be created in the List Item column of the Job Tree. This column serves as the "design" or layout view for the actual renaming task. After this quick operation one can accept the names, or set up one or more Master Item(s). After each changing a master item, it is recommended to press again this "Create Renaming Template" ikon.
